What Is Business Storytelling Coaching?

Business storytelling coaching is not a workshop where someone teaches you a formula and sends you home with a workbook.

It’s a 1:1 partnership where a coach works alongside you to uncover, shape, and sharpen the stories that your business depends on. The investor pitch. The strategic narrative. The keynote that has to land. The story you tell your team when things get hard.

Most business communication fails not because the data is weak, but because the story is missing. Numbers prove a point. Stories move people. And the gap between what you know and what your audience feels is where business storytelling coaching lives.

A good business storytelling coach does not hand you scripts. A good coach helps you discover what you actually want to say, gives it structure, and makes sure it lands the way you intend.

The Business Storytelling Mountain

I have been using and popularizing the Business Storytelling Mountain for over a decade. It is an 8-step storytelling framework built on the Hero’s Journey, packaged into steps that work in a boardroom, in a university lecture, in a one-on-one conversation.

Every story is a mountain. You climb it. And when you reach the peak, your audience should be different from when they started.

The framework takes you from establishing who you are and why you are in the room, through defining what is at stake for your audience, to the core transformation, the single most important idea, and the actionable close that turns a story into a decision.

Every time we use storytelling, we use it to go from informational to transformational. If we just need to tell the students that lunch is at 12:30, we don’t need storytelling.

For the full 8-step breakdown, with examples and techniques, read the Business Storytelling Guide.

Business Storytelling in Funding Rounds

Investors buy into the founder.

Not the spreadsheet. Not the TAM slide. Not the competitive landscape matrix. They buy into the person sitting across from them and whether that person can make them believe.

I worked intensively with Mario, CEO of Harbiz. We crafted his investor pitch together, restructuring how he told the story of his company. Then he disappeared. My follow-up emails went unanswered. Months later, he finally responds: “Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you. Since the funding round, I haven’t had a moment to breathe.” He had closed €5 million with European investors.

What most founders get wrong in investor conversations is not the content. It is the stance. They defend instead of leading. They recite instead of connecting. They dump data instead of telling the story of why this matters.

A business storytelling coach works with you on the structure of your pitch, the emotional arc of your Q&A, and how you show up in that room.

“Working with Matteo was a game-changer. He helped refine my pitch structure, teaching me how to shape it like a compelling story and identify which key elements deserved emphasis. Through his guidance, I learned how to direct my listeners’ attention precisely to where I wanted it.”

CEO Communication: The Story That Sets the Tone

How you communicate as a CEO determines how everyone in the company communicates. You are the benchmark. Are you setting a good one?

When CEO communication breaks down, the symptoms show up everywhere. Innovation that once flowed freely trickles to a halt. Departments become silos. Teams unknowingly duplicate efforts. Each attempt to scale further fractures company structure.

A strong company culture is a top-down phenomenon. Someone needs to give the rhythm, the pace, the tone to the organization. That someone is you.

CEO communication is not marketing. It is not personal branding. It is the growth function. Founder-led communication, CEO-led communication, is the only moat that is going to stay. AI today can take a lot off your plate. Execution used to be a bottleneck. That doesn’t seem the case going forward. What AI can’t do: be authentically you.

Fifty years ago, only a few people needed to communicate well: heads of state, musicians, stars. Today every founder needs to communicate. As a founder you are the star. The more execution is automated, the more founders need to become better communicators.

What business storytelling coaching gives a CEO is not a set of presentation tips. It is clarity on the strategic narrative. The story that connects investor communication, team alignment, brand positioning, and public speaking into one coherent thread.

What we work on together:

  • Personal communication assessment
  • Personal leverage assessment
  • Thinking style assessment
  • Company vision and mission
  • North Star narrative
  • Main story beats
  • CEO content operating system

Storytelling for Personal Branding

When building a personal brand, it is essential to avoid shallowness and lack of depth. Personal branding should be predicated on values and first principles, giving it depth and distinguishing it from the shallow brand of an influencer.

There is a difference between defining your personal brand and designing it. Two distinct things. In order to create effective communication on any channel, you first have to figure out who you are. Then how to communicate who you are.

Build not just a personal brand but a personal mythology.

A business storytelling coach helps you discover the narrative threads that run through your career, your decisions, your convictions. Those threads are your brand. Not the logo. Not the LinkedIn headline. The story people tell about you when you leave the room.

Your personal brand is not what you say about yourself. It is the residue of every story you have ever told, every promise you have kept, every moment where you showed up as yourself instead of performing a version of yourself.

What we work on together:

  • Positioning
  • Mission and vision
  • Design brief
  • North Star narrative

Getting Ready for the Big Stage

Conference and panel preparation is a natural extension of business storytelling coaching. When you have a keynote coming up, you need more than rehearsal. You need someone who helps you find the story that makes that talk yours.

I help you package your core narrative into engaging stage talks. Not by writing your speech for you. By pulling out of you the story that only you can tell, structuring it so the audience goes on a journey, and making sure you can deliver it as yourself.

I have prepared executives who had never spoken in public to talk to 5,000 people and hear the question afterwards if they were a professional speaker. No matter what the challenge is, communication is my passion and I can help you shine.

What Makes This Different

Most storytelling coaches help you perform better. I help you be.

That distinction changes everything. Performing is rehearsing a talk until it sounds polished. Being is knowing who you are so deeply that any room, any question, any audience gets the real version.

I help you create your strategic narrative. The overarching story that defines why your organization exists, where it is going, and why it matters. A strategic narrative is the connective thread between everything: your investor pitch, your team meeting, your keynote, your LinkedIn post. Get the narrative right and every communication gets easier.

This makes me a co-creator, not an agency. I don’t take your brief and deliver assets. I sit with you, challenge you, think with you, build with you. Your sounding board. Your support. Your partner and your coach. Not a mentor on a mountain who tells you how it is done.

After working at Warner Bros. and consulting for companies like Netflix, I discovered something crucial: true leadership power comes from within, not from frameworks or best practices. Today, I help founders become so vulnerable they become invulnerable. Not through frameworks or “best practices.” Through permission to be unreasonably you.

Who Business Storytelling Coaching Is For

Founders preparing for investor, hiring, or sales conversations. You have a strong product and a clear market. But when you sit across from investors, talent, or prospects, your story falls flat. You need someone who helps you lead with conviction, not data dumps.

CEOs who set the communication culture. How you show up in front of your team, your board, your customers defines how the entire organization communicates. Coaching gives you the clarity and the narrative spine to lead with consistency.

Leaders building strategic alignment. When teams are siloed and messages are fragmented, the problem is rarely the org chart. It is the absence of a story that connects everything. A business storytelling coach helps you find that story.

Speakers preparing for high-stakes moments. A conference keynote. A panel. A pitch competition. You don’t want to sound rehearsed. You want to sound like yourself, at your best.

Professionals building a personal brand. You know you need to be more visible. But every time you sit down to write or record, it comes out generic. Coaching helps you find the authentic narrative that makes your brand unmistakably you.

How Business Storytelling Coaching Works

Vector

We start with a conversation. Not about what you want to say, but about who you are. What brought you here. What is really at stake. Most coaches start at ground level with tactics. I start at 100,000 feet with identity and work down.

Vector

We develop a strategic narrative that is so simple it becomes sticky. Your core proprietary story that you own on all channels. The connective thread between how you talk to investors, your team, your audience, and the public.

Vector

We work on real stories and real challenges. Not hypothetical exercises. Your actual investor meeting next Thursday. Your actual keynote in three weeks. Your actual team alignment issue.

Vector

You take the work into the room. And then we debrief, refine, and sharpen. The work never stays theoretical. It shows up in how you lead, how you pitch, how you show up on stage, and how you communicate every day.

Vector

I leave you with a storytelling content operating system that helps you continue communicating long after I am gone. Not dependency. Independence.

About Matteo Cassese

Confidence isn’t something you perform. It’s what’s left when you stop performing.

I’ve always been fascinated by how people communicate, and how badly it usually goes, especially at work. Twenty-five years ago, I started studying what makes a story great, from the structure of storytelling all the way down to slide design. That curiosity took me to Warner Bros., where I helped launch over a hundred films, and eventually to stages like SXSW and Campus Party. But the real lesson came later. After building and burning down a few businesses, after working with entrepreneurs as a coach, after watching first-hand what truly makes or breaks a person’s confidence.

I realized that trying to be confident is the perfect way to feel insecure. True confidence comes from showing up as yourself. Being willing to be vulnerable instead of hiding. Jumping head first into conflict instead of avoiding it. That’s what I help founders, leaders, and teams discover now: the paradox of confidence, and the freedom that follows.

Business Storytelling Coaching FAQ

faq comm coaching v2

What is business storytelling coaching?

Business storytelling coaching is a 1:1 partnership where a coach helps you uncover, structure, and deliver the stories your business depends on. Unlike workshops that teach generic techniques, coaching is tailored to your specific context: your pitch, your team, your stage moment.

Who is business storytelling coaching for?

Founders preparing for investor conversations, CEOs who want to set the communication culture of their company, leaders building team alignment, speakers preparing for high-stakes moments, and professionals building a personal brand through authentic narrative.

How is your approach different from other storytelling coaches?

Most coaches help you perform better. I help you be. I co-create your strategic narrative with you, working at the identity level before we ever touch tactics. I am a co-creator, not an agency. And I bring a rare combination: a filmmaking background from Warner Bros. and over a hundred films launched, a deep coaching practice, and a proprietary 8-step framework I have been teaching for over a decade.

faq founder growth v2

Can you help me prepare for an investor pitch?

Yes. Investor pitch preparation is one of the most common reasons founders work with me. I helped one client close a €5 million funding round by restructuring how he told the story of his company. The work covers pitch structure, investor Q&A presence, and the emotional arc of how you show up.

faq speaker customize v1

How long does coaching take?

Every engagement is different. Some clients come for a single high-stakes moment and need five sessions. Others work with me over months to build a complete strategic narrative and communication system. The first step is always a conversation to understand what you need.

Do you work remotely or in person?

Both. I am based in Berlin and work with clients worldwide via video call. In-person intensives are available in Berlin.

faq speaker expect v5

What results can I expect?

Clients have closed multi-million funding rounds, doubled their revenue, landed their biggest clients, and have been seen as professional storytellers after our work together. But the deepest result is always the same: clarity, confidence, and the ability to show up as yourself in any room.

How do I get started?

Book a Clarity Session. It is fully refundable if it was not helpful. We talk about where you are, what is at stake, and map out the clear next step.
